On August 8, 2016 in Wichita, Kansas, SWAT Deputy Mark Diebold of the Tarrant County Police asked God for a sign. What he received, however, was not what he could have ever expected.
The previous weeks had been very difficult for law enforcement, however, August 8th will always be a day that Deputy Diebold will always remember- his faith was restored. As he was praying for a sign, Operation Rescue National/Operation Save America released an “Open Letter to Police in America” reminding police of their duty provided by God to protect the unborn from murder. This letter was sent to media outlets throughout the nation.
During what was coined “The Summer of Justice”, Rev. Rusty Lee Thomas (National Director, ORN/OSA, Chet Gallagher (Assistant Director and former police officer), and pastor Rob Rotola delivered copies of the letter to officers in Wichita. A team of intercessors prayed at the South Wind abortion clinic asking God to protect both the unborn babies and police from violence. One woman prayed, “God, deliver, deliver, deliver”.
Meanwhile, 445 miles away, a car was speeding towards a Texas hospital. The baby couldn’t wait, and the woman went into labor. Deputy Diebold pulled alongside the car and delivered a 6lbs, 11 oz baby. This was not just any baby- it was Reverend Thomas’ granddaughter named Evelyn which means “life”.
At the same time Rev Thomas was praying over police intervening on behalf of the unborn/preborn, and to end abortion established by Roe vs. Wade, Evelyn was being delivered by a police officer looking for a sign from God.
The “Summer of Justice”called magistrates to stand in the gap and intercede over the unborn whose mothers were opting to abort. When Deputy Diebold delivered Evelyn, he was fulfilling the role of “lesser magistrate” and acting as an example of what needs to be done to deliver the unborn.
Deputy Diebold saved the life of a baby, and received a miracle renewing his faith.
