Recent news has placed the Conjuring2 in headlines- not because of ratings, but due to paranormal activity. Paranormal activity ranges from a deceased cadaver and his attendant going missing, demonic possession, to crosses appearing. These unexplained events have caused quite a panic among those who cannot explain the happenings. Is it a publicity stunt? Maybe. Could it be real? Maybe. Could it be a bit of both? That’s a possibility as well.
Faith Filled Family has received requests to discuss this topic and warn viewers about the movie. My goal is not to bring attention to a horror movie, but rather to do a two part series exploring the supernatural and the effects of watching these movies. We will expose the truth of the matter. This segment will address the supernatural aspect.
I have not seen the movie, nor do I personally deem it appropriate to do so. Many of these reasons I will discuss tomorrow. For those of you who are looking for more information regarding the supernatural, you will find this informative. You will finally hear the truth instead of a Hollywood lie.
The supernatural is not always discussed in many churches, yet it does exist. The “downer” is that it is not a Hollywood-style manifestation. Satan is not this unyielding superpower that is mightier than God. Satan, in reality, is a defeated foe (Galatians 1:4, 1 John 3:8, Revelation 1:18, and Colossians 1:13). Jesus died on the cross to rescue us from darkness and for our salvation. His death and resurrection defeated Satan and gave us authority.
“So He said to them, “I saw Satan fall like lightning from heaven. See, I have given you authority to tread on snakes and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy. Nothing will harm you. Nevertheless, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.” Luke 10:18-20
This scripture demonstrates that God has given us authority over Satan and his demons. It is up to us to stand in the authority that God has given us.
So Why Is There Demonic Possession/Oppression If Satan Has Been Defeated?
First of all, we need to define what possession and oppression are, as there are distinct differences. Demonic possession can only occur in an unbeliever- someone who does not know Christ. If the Holy Spirit dwells inside of you, a demon simply cannot as the two cannot reside in the same space. No where in the Bible does it mention in the case of possession that the person was an unbeliever. In some cases, the person was practicing occult activity (Acts16:16-18) wherein they welcomed a spirit to reside in them. When we practice things such as sorcery, tarrot card readings, or communicating with dead spirits, we by our words are commanding them to enter us wherein they will reside.
In other cases, in the Bible, the cause for possession is not mentioned, yet does exist.
“Jesus had stepped out of the boat, immediately there met him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit. He lived among the tombs. And no one could bind him anymore, not even with a chain, for he had often been bound with shackles and chains, but he wrenched the chains apart, and he broke the shackles in pieces. No one had the strength to subdue him. Night and day among the tombs and on the mountains he was always crying out and cutting himself with stones. And when he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and fell down before him. And crying out with a loud voice, he said, “What have you to do with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? I adjure you by God, do not torment me.” For he was saying to him, “Come out of the man, you unclean spirit!” 9 And Jesus asked him, “What is your name?” He replied, “My name is Legion, for we are many.” And he begged him earnestly not to send them out of the country. Now a great herd of pigs was feeding there on the hillside, and they begged him, saying, “Send us to the pigs; let us enter them.” So he gave them permission. And the unclean spirits came out and entered the pigs; and the herd, numbering about two thousand, rushed down the steep bank into the sea and drowned in the sea.” Mark 5:1-15
“And when they came to the crowd, a man came up to him and, kneeling before him, said, “Lord, have mercy on my son, for he is an epileptic and he suffers terribly. For often he falls into the fire, and often into the water. And I brought him to your disciples, and they could not heal him.” And Jesus answered, “O faithless and twisted generation, how long am I to be with you? How long am I to bear with you? Bring him here to me.” And Jesus rebuked the demon, and it came out of him, and the boy was healed instantly. … ” Matthew 17:14-20
“And in the synagogue there was a man who had the spirit of an unclean demon, and he cried out with a loud voice, “Ha! What have you to do with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God.” But Jesus rebuked him, saying, “Be silent and come out of him!” And when the demon had thrown him down in their midst, he came out of him, having done him no harm. And they were all amazed and said to one another, “What is this word? For with authority and power he commands the unclean spirits, and they come out!” Luke 4:33-37
None of these passages reference why the person was demonically possessed. However, the pattern for authority is clear. Note that it is not a sensational struggle involving Holy Water/Oil flying in all directions. Nor is the one delivering the individual in a panic, being tormented, or sweating profusely. The solution is simple and concise. The solution is void of fear but rich in authority.
In all cases, whether it was the disciples or Jesus, demons were cast out using words. These words are not just a simple “get out”, but used in conjunction with the name of Jesus.
“12 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it.” John 14:12-14
This is taking your authority. It applies to sickness, demonic oppression/possession, and a multitude of other things. Once we exercise our authority, the demon must leave. It has been defeated.
Now some demons require prayer and fasting to be removed as well, and in these cases, we need to seek the Lord’s counsel.
The second thing to note is the absence of fear. There is no fear once you understand your authority, just conviction. Once you know that Satan has been defeated, there is no fear because we walk in the victory. Once we use our authority, we can expect to see results. There is nothing sensational about it. The only struggle that may occur is if the person does not want to let the demon go. However, if it is their desire to be free, then the demon has to go.
It should be noted, however, that once “the house has been clean”, the Word needs to go into the individual. The scripture is what will cause them to fight back as spirits can return.
“When the unclean spirit has gone out of a person, it passes through waterless places seeking rest, but finds none. Then it says, ‘I will return to my house from which I came.’ And when it comes, it finds the house empty, swept, and put in order. Then it goes and brings with it seven other spirits more evil than itself, and they enter and dwell there, and the last state of that person is worse than the first. So also will it be with this evil generation.” Matthew 12:43-45
How to fix it?
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, … ” Ephesians 6:10-18.
Scripture says to be strong in the Word to overcome the wiles of the enemy. We need both the scripture and to invite the Holy Spirit into our lives. Where the Holy Spirit exists, Satan cannot. It is no longer an “empty house”.
What is Demonic Oppression?
Demonic oppression can occur in Christians, however, Christians cannot be possessed. The Devil can choose to oppress Christians with many afflictions and bondages that prevent us from walking in the fullness of Christ. Examples of this would be addictions in any form; pornography, sexual addictions, drugs, drinking, gambling, or anything that exalts itself above God. You can be in bondage to fear, sickness, disease, etc. This type requires a prayer for deliverance, and again, the person needs to be in agreement.
Again, it isn’t a sensational act, but involves a simple, but earnest, prayer.
Why Are Believer’s Suckered In?
Believers are drawn into horror movies and attacks mostly due to ignorance. Spiritual warfare isn’t always taught, so many just don’t know that they were even given authority. It is a dangerous place to be in as many in the body are suffering needlessly.
The truth of the matter is that whatever you confess or believe will happen will occur. If you are drawn into believing that ghosts/demons exist, then they will manifest. This is the result of watching horror movies. A door is opened for a person to believe that they will appear in that manner. So they do. Demons do exist, and do manifest even to those who know their authority. The difference is those that walk in victory will cast them out. Those that don’t will be plagued by them.
Choose to walk in your authority now.
For those that have not accepted Christ as their Savior and who want to, please click on the widget below and recite the prayer of salvation. It is not God’s desire that any of His children should perish, but have everlasting life through Him. If a life of victory is what you desire, then you need to say this prayer.
Please also let us know if you have given your life to Christ so that we can rejoice with you! We also want to give you material to help you in your faith and place you in a church in your area wherein you can grow.
